Orphanage
Support
China
Care supports the local orphanages with whom we cooperate in many ways.
Our goal is to improve the quality of care for each and every child, not
only the children who leave the orphanage to live in one of our Children's
Homes. We tailor our support to meet the needs of each particular
orphanage. Here are some of the programs we provide:
Infant
formula Program
China Care provides quality infant formula to orphanages that cannot afford
to buy it. Many orphanages’ budget does not cover the purchase of
infant formula, so the babies are fed less expensive fresh milk or regular
powdered milk. This can lead to severe nutritional deficiencies as well
as poor growth and development. We not only provide formula, we also go
into the orphanage to train the staff in the proper preparation, feeding
and storage of this precious commodity.
Diapers
for Orphanages
China Care manufactures soft, cute, leak-proof re-usable diapers for use
in our own Children's
Homes. When possible, we make these diapers available to local
orphanages as well. Orphanages are desperate for these diapers, as they
have no money to buy diapers and use rags instead. Providing quality diapers
reduces the amount of soiled clothing and bedding that requires laundering,
and makes it possible for caregivers to hold the babies without fear
of "accidents" on their own clothing or the floor. If you would
like to fund diapers for an orphanage, you can visit our Orphanage
Support Projects to find out which orphanage needs diapers now.
Foster
Care Support
China Care often funds local orphanages’ own foster care program.
Chinese national policy is requiring Chinese orphanages to move more children
out of institutions and into loving families. We provide funding for training
these foster parents and paying their stipends. In addition, our own staff
makes regular visits to ensure the quality of care. If you are interested
in sponsoring a child in our own foster care program, learn more here.
Renovations
Sometimes the orphanage’s own basic facilities are so lacking that
it affects the care of the children living there. China Care has assisted orphanages
in renovating their buildings to improve living conditions for the children.
This might include installing insulated windows to conserve heat in the
cold winter months, screens to keep out mosquitoes in the summer, renovations
of kitchens, and bathrooms as well as playrooms and bedrooms. Sometimes
we have provided institutional use appliances as well, such as an industrial
clothes dryer for drying laundry or a refrigerator to store food without
spoilage.
