Volunteering at The China Care Home-- Day 3, Summer 2010

Day 3 by Caroline Neumann

One of my fondest memories from today was when Sydney, another volunteer, and I took three toddlers to the playroom downstairs. The kids had so much fun playing on the slides, the rocking horses and with the toys. It was so great to see their faces light up and see them so happy.

In one of the infant rooms, I took turns holding, feeding, and playing with the adorable babies. Yesterday two new babies arrived so everyone was excited to see them today.

In another one of the infant nursery rooms, I tried to comfort one baby who is only 2 weeks old and has many severe disabilities including a spina bifida sac on his back. The baby was having seizures, and it was so sad to see such a small baby have to go through so much pain. But the nannies and nurses take such good care of him--I hope he knows he is loved.
