Playgroups
A number of our China Care clubs have developed playgroups for adopted Chinese children and their families. The clubs organize and run these playgroups on their own, volunteering their time to reach out to Chinese children living in their community. The goal of this program is to increase the children's awareness of and appreciation for their Chinese language and cultural heritage and to provide a venue where adoptive families can meet and network. Playgroup activities focus on children making new friends and identifying with and learning more about their Chinese culture. China Care clubs that currently host playgroups: Harvard, Brown, Duke, Tufts, Northwestern, Emory, McGill, University of Texas-Austin, Yale, Bergen County Academies, The Baldwin School, The Bolles School, University of Toledo, University of Connecticut, New York University, Stanford, Georgia Tech, Purdue, MIT and Boston University.
Mentorship
Some China Care clubs have created a mentorship program for adopted Chinese adolescents. This program pairs a China Care club member with an adolescent child who was adopted from China and aims to increase the children's awareness and appreciation for their Chinese cultural heritage. By participating in the program, older children have an opportunity to talk with other Chinese Americans about finding their own identity. The mentors and their mentees participate in group cultural activities that foster positive one-to-one relationships between the adopted adolescents and their China Care club mentors. China Care Clubs that currently host mentoring programs: Harvard, Brown, Duke, Emory, Tufts, Northwestern, UCLA, University of Texas – Austin, UC Berkeley and UPenn.
