China Care Families

"Pei-Pei"

I adopted my first daughter from China in 1998, a little 13-month-old girl from Jiangxi Province. We were very happy together, she and I, and although she wanted a little sister, I always said that I wouldn't adopt again. Well, there is a saying that goes "never say never again"! In March of 2004, I saw the referral photo of a beautiful smiling 4-year-old girl and knew that she was meant to be a part of our forever family. She was on the special needs list because she was born with a hole in her heart, but that had been surgically repaired a year earlier. On May 30, 2004 (things moved very quickly!) we met in the Registrar's Office in Taiyuan, Shanxi Province. Although she was scared and obviously nervous about meeting me, she warmed up quickly to my daughter Eve (who is now 7 years old) and soon was in my lap, coloring.

She is amazing. In her short life, she has lived with her birthparents for 15 months, an orphanage for a year, gone to the hospital in Beijing for major heart surgery, been with a foster mother in Shanxi province, lived in a foster group home (11 children) in Beijing for 9 months, and then came to America to live with us. Still, she is happy and energetic (she loves to jump on the trampoline at gymnastics class) and loving and attached. She is also very strong-willed and already holds her own with her big sister!

As mentioned before, I had not planned to adopt again. Financially, I was not in a good situation to come up with the funds needed to adopt. But I felt strongly that God was telling me it was time and to put my trust in Him that the funds would become available when I needed them. Sure enough, the China Care Foundation came through with just what I needed to complete the adoption. I applied to China Care and was shortly approved for a grant/loan. The check went straight to my agency and covered my trip! It could not have come at a better time. Because of China Care, I was able to bring home Pei-Pei wtihout worrying about bills right away when we came home. I am now starting to pay back the loan - while holding Pei-Pei in my arms. It's a great feeling!!
