YanYin
Age: 2 1/2 years

YanYin was abandoned with a severe heart defect, hemiplegia (a type of paralysis) and a missing spleen. He arrived at China Care when he was just five months old, at which point our medical staff evaluated him and quickly arranged for him to have surgery.

YanYin had a successful operation for the heart defect where surgeons inserted a shunt to help blood flow from his aorta to his pulmonary artery. He needed a second operation to further correct his defective heart, which was performed in May 2009. After a few weeks in the hospital, YanYin returned to our Special Care Unit at the China Care Home to recover.  He was put on a strict diet and in June was moved into the Family Housing Unit to further recuperate from his invasive surgery.

This tough little boy doesn’t let his illness hold him back.  He is a happy two year-old who loves yogurt, his pacifier and playing outside. In fact, in typical toddler fashion, he had to get stitches on his head recently after taking a spill. He quickly bounced back from that tumble and has been having fun playing with all the toys he can get his hands on!
